WITHOUT LOVE, WE ARE NOTHING!

“And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.” 1 Corinthians 13:13

Often I find myself pondering….wait, if I’m completely honest it’s more like overthinking what God’s love is to me, what it means, how do I show Godly love etc…To me it is heady stuff and sometimes can be so overwhelming that I just shut it off instead of allowing His spirit to fill me with the Truth. We are all surrounded everyday by messages of “love”; being told what it is and what it is not. I have come to know a few truths that have transformed my life in ways that have been painful and in others that are sometimes too good to comprehend…but these truths have been transformational none the less.

  1. God is Love…ok that was too easy… but was it? You see many people seem to change the perspective into Love is God. The problem with that is they now have made Love the idol of our worship and not the one who is and always shall be worthy of our worship. His personhood, His sovereignty, His being and His creation began with and ends with love. He is love. He is highest!
  2. Deep Abiding Love is a Choice– We all know the romantic, warm feelings of love and the powerful place they play in our significant relationships. My experience has taught me that an even deeper, more meaningful and lasting love comes from choosing love instead of only feeling love. Folks, feelings are a terrible leaders! What I mean is feelings are fickle, fleeting and can be as difficult to hold onto as smoke in your hand. At some point they will change, that is certain. God’s love never changes no matter what we do or say or think…I want to love like that! Choose to love even when you don’t want to.
  3. Love is Dispensed in Moments– Yes there are loves for a lifetime and years of “being in love” but what I have found is that some of the most powerful times I have felt or given love have been in just moments of interaction. The kissing of a child that is sick, the touch of a hand or a kiss on the forehead of another that is struggling and in need of comfort, the holding of a parent’s hand as they leave this world to meet Jesus for the first time. These are moments of choice, moments of incredible power and connection and moments where God is present. Christ was a man of moments with gentle touch and encouraging words which made moments into ministry…a path we can surely attempt to follow.
  4. Life without Love is not Life – Life is only noise and emptiness without love.

“If I speak in tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.” 1 Corinthians 13:1
